A fantastic book for pigment and color history lovers! The descriptions for each colorant are concise and informative, and the photography is some of the best I’ve seen of this genre. Crisp, clear images with interesting lighting and perspectives. Highly recommend!

Amazing read this book is a must read for artists and also for schoolchildren studying art. Color dominates our visual landscape and it’s history is fascinating. Well written and illustrated.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Learning about the history of the pigments I paint with and many I don’t because they are no longer in use was very interested.
I think the book was thorough and well written.

Bear in mind that this is a relatively small book that presents two or three facts about roughly 45 colours. There is a section on making paint which was interesting. This is a light read with a lot of stylish illustration (attractive full page unexplained photos) that overall gives the impression of advertising copy to accompany some kind of paint product but there is none.
